Libya is a country in North Africa bordered on the north by the Mediterranean Sea, Egypt in the east, Sudan in the southeast, Chad and Niger in the south, and Algeria and Tunisia in the west. Most of the country is part of the Sahara desert with the majority of the population living along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. Libya is currently a country in conflict. It has two governments, one in the eastern part of Libya and one in the western part of Libya. Each is supported by international actors. Throughout the country there are a number of militia groups and political factions vying for control, influence, and territory. Most are aligned with either the east or the west. Within each of these two geographic factions is a frequent amount of infighting. In addition, the Islamic State and other terrorist groups have periodically caused significant turmoil; however, these groups are more active in southern Libya.
