Salaheddin al-Namroush
Lieutenant General Salaheddin al-Namroush is the acting GNU Army Chief of Staff (as of mid-2026). He was appointed after the previous CoS, General Mohammed al-Haddad was killed in an airplane crash in Turkey on December 23, 2025. Namroush serves as the head of the armed forces of the Government of National Unity (GNU) based in western Libya.
General Salah al Namroush has been appointed by the Presidential Council on a temporary basis. A permanent replacement will be a political decision with a number of influential stakeholders and militia leaders weighing in on the process.
