Automatic Identification
System (AIS)
The Automatic Identification System (AIS) is used to
automatically transmit and receive vessel information. It was
designed as a safety tool for vessel collision avoidance for
ocean going ships and boats. All ships over a certain tonnage
are expected to maintain a functional AIS that broadcasts at
all times.
